Join me for a relaxed morning workshop exploring how to paint minimalist mountains and loose skies in watercolour.
Thu Nov 05th, Art Studio, Farnham 10 am -12.30 pm
This workshop focuses on working with a limited colour palette to create minimalist, atmospheric landscapes.
Through guided exercises, you’ll build layered washes to create depth, using water to soften edges and allow forms to appear naturally. The focus is on letting shapes emerge, rather than trying to define them too early, so the sense of mist and distance can develop. This is not a realistic painting workshop, you will learn how to create the suggestions of shapes and forms through brush control and learning how water and pigment interact.
You’ll work with indigos, blues and greens, learn to mix them and observe how colour and value can shift the atmosphere of the painting. There will be demonstrations throughout, along with one-to-one support as you work. By the end of the session, you’ll have a series of moody landscape studies and a clearer sense of how to create layers, washes and softness in your own work.
All materials are provided. You'll have a complete watercolour kit to use during the session, including paints, brushes and paper. There's no need to bring anything, although you're welcome to bring your own favourite brushes or paints if you'd like.
Art Studio is my home studio in Farnham (GU9), in an upstairs maisonette accessed by stairs. The full address and directions will be provided after booking. Free street parking is available nearby.
I have a cat at home, so you may encounter them during your visit. If you have a cat allergy or concerns about being around cats, please get in touch before booking.
Workshops take place in a small group of up to six people.
