Join watercolour artist Kristina Kivu for a relaxed day exploring abstract painting through playful experimentation, expressive mark making and the unpredictable nature of watercolour.
The workshop is designed to help you get comfortable with not knowing exactly where a painting is going, recognising something interesting as it appears on the page and responding to it. Rather than working from a reference or aiming for a particular finished image, you’ll explore colour, pigment, water and mark making to see what emerges.
You’ll work with the fluid nature of watercolour, allowing shapes to form and shift. You’ll add interest with pencils, crayons and markers, playing with lines, gestures and rhythm.
There will be demonstrations, guidance and one-to-one support throughout, alongside plenty of space to experiment in your own way. By the end of the session, you’ll have a better understanding of how to approach painting intuitively, as well as practical ways to keep experimenting on your own.
Suitable for both beginners and more experienced artists looking to paint in a more intuitive way.
All materials are provided, but feel free to bring favourite watercolours, inks and mixed media materials. Lunch is not provided but there is a rich selection of food and drinks available at the cafe on site. Alternatively, you can bring your own lunch and any refreshments for the day.
